Porto Ercole brings coastal Tuscany into view through a harbor, old town, hills and coves on Monte Argentario. Il Pellicano's Tyrrhenian cove and Argentario Golf & Wellness Resort's golf setting offer two different hotel experiences beside this historic landscape.

Il Pellicano looks over a Tyrrhenian cove near Porto Ercole. Its coastal setting makes the sea a main part of the hotel experience.
Argentario Golf & Wellness Resort provides another approach, with golf and a wider resort setting contributing to the visit. Compare it with the cove retreat around the landscape and activities you want from the hotel, rather than the length of a facilities list.
Feniglia is the sandy link between Monte Argentario near Porto Ercole and the hill of Ansedonia. The Tyrrhenian Sea lies on one side and Orbetello Lagoon on the other. This is a different coastal landscape from a rocky cove: the reserve brings sand dunes, a stone-pine forest and the lagoon edge into one narrow strip of land. Choose Feniglia for that succession of habitats, with vegetation and shoreline sharing the interest of the outing.
The pinewood also has a productive history. Its stone pines supply pine nuts used in food, adding a working landscape to the reserve's natural character.
Orbetello occupies a thin tongue of land within the lagoon and is connected to Argentario by a causeway. Its historic centre gives a town visit a different setting from Porto Ercole's marina. The cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta has a prominent rose window, while the surviving mill stands in the lagoon itself. The mill's older water-driven machinery was later adapted with sails under Spanish rule: it links the open water to the area's history of grinding grain.
Our Italy destination guide places Argentario beside inland Tuscany and the country's city and regional stays. Compare those settings when choosing the next part of a journey beyond this coast.
The sixteenth-century fort has a distinctive star-shaped plan and overlooks the sea. Choose it for military architecture and the relationship between fortification and coastline, rather than assuming every viewpoint above Porto Ercole tells the same story.
The Rocca, Forte Filippo and Forte Stella belong to the area’s sixteenth-century defensive history under the State of the Presidi. They are part of the cultural landscape surrounding the town, distinct from the modern hotels.
The artist died here in 1610, and the historic village commemorates that connection. It adds an art-history subject to a walk through the town. Treat the association with care rather than expecting a gallery of his paintings simply because his name appears locally.
The Corsini Botanical Garden offers a distinct garden visit in Porto Ercole. It gives plant enthusiasts another reason to explore beyond the hotel grounds. Choose it for that interest rather than treating every green space as interchangeable resort landscaping.
Porto Ercole’s old lanes and small squares sit above the marina and waterfront. A visit can include both, but they are different parts of the settlement. Plan the walk for that relationship rather than expecting every old-town street to be directly beside the water.
