The hotel stands at Poststrasse 12 on Paradeplatz. Bahnhofstrasse's flagship shops, banks, and tram lines begin outside. Fraumunster, St. Peter, Lindenhof, the Limmat, Burkliplatz, and the lake are all within an easy walk. Zurich Main Station is about six minutes away on foot, which also gives direct rail access to Zurich Airport and the rest of Switzerland.

This location works equally well for a weekend city break and a short business trip. Guests can walk to meetings, galleries, shops, restaurants, and the lake. Kunsthaus Zurich is roughly 12 minutes away on foot. Opera House Zurich and the lakeside promenade are farther but still practical without a car.

Johannes Baur opened the original Hotel Baur en Ville on Christmas Eve in 1838. It was Zurich's first grand hotel. The building has changed through many eras, but its position on Paradeplatz remains central to its identity. The latest renovation preserved key historic rooms while replacing the guest experience with modern systems, quieter interiors, and a fresh layout.

Paris designer Tristan Auer used colors and materials inspired by Zurich and Switzerland. Hand-crafted furniture, warm fabrics, stone, wood, and careful lighting soften the formal architecture. The result feels polished but not museum-like. Historic details remain most visible in the ballroom, guild hall, facade, and proportions of the public rooms.

The hotel has 44 rooms and 36 suites. This high suite share makes it a boutique property with unusually large city accommodation. Many categories include a balcony, terrace, or private rooftop. Views can face Paradeplatz, Bahnhofstrasse, inner courtyards, city landmarks, or the Alps in clear weather.

Rooms combine quiet colors, hand-made details, large bathrooms, Wi-Fi, work space, and modern climate control. Some connect for family stays. Top-floor rooms add outdoor space above the busy shopping streets. The small room count helps service feel focused, while the variety of layouts reflects the historic building.

Suites range from separate living-room layouts to large signature options. The Mandarin Rooftop Suite has a broad terrace above Bahnhofstrasse. The Presidential Suite provides formal living and dining space. A four-bedroom apartment of about 275 square meters supports families or groups who need several private rooms within one plan.

Outdoor space is a key reason to choose a higher category. Zurich rooms with a terrace are rare in this central area. Guests should compare size, view, balcony type, and bedroom count before booking. The historic floor plan means two suites with similar names can still feel different.

ORSINI is the hotel's Italian fine-dining restaurant. Chef Dario Moresco leads the kitchen with guidance from consultant Antonio Guida. The restaurant holds one Michelin star and 17 GaultMillau points. Menus reinterpret Italian traditions with products from Switzerland and Italy. A separate Waaggasse entrance gives the small dining room its own identity.

Lunch runs on selected weekdays, while dinner is served from Tuesday to Saturday under the current schedule. Children from age eight are welcome. Private hire is possible for small corporate or family events. Reservations are important because the room is intimate and closes during selected seasonal periods.

Savoy Brasserie and Bar serves breakfast, lunch, afternoon dishes, dinner, and cocktails. The menu blends French brasserie style with international classics and Swiss favorites such as Zurcher Geschnetzeltes. It works for a business lunch, a relaxed dinner, or a meeting between shopping appointments. A private dining room seats up to eight guests.

The Savoy Terrasse opens seasonally for outdoor dining on Paradeplatz. It adds a lively street-level contrast to the quiet rooms above. Mandarin Lounge offers tea, cocktails, light food, and a fireplace setting. Afternoon tea returns during the cooler months under the current seasonal plan.

The 1838 rooftop bar takes its name from the hotel's founding year. It serves Asian plates, sushi, cocktails, alcohol-free drinks, wine, and Champagne with views across Zurich and toward the mountains. The top-floor bar continues a rooftop tradition linked to the former Savoy. Hours change by day and season.

Wood floors, a planted wall, and a covered bar give the terrace structure without blocking the view. It is popular around sunset, so booking is sensible. Weather affects outdoor service. The rooftop is a strong reason to stay because guests can return to their room without crossing the city after an evening drink.

The hotel does not operate a large destination spa. Wellness centers on a 24-hour fitness room with Matrix equipment, a Kinesis wall, cardio machines, and strength options. Personal training can be arranged. Guests who want a full pool and thermal circuit should note this distinction before booking.

Zurich itself supports active days. The lake promenade, river paths, and nearby parks suit walks or runs. In warm weather, local baths provide swimming options. The concierge can arrange external wellness services or help plan mountain and lake trips beyond the city.

More than 700 square meters of meeting and event space includes a restored ballroom, a protected guild hall, salons, and boardrooms. Ten venues support weddings, corporate events, private dinners, and small meetings. The historic rooms create a formal setting, while modern audiovisual systems handle current business needs.

Paradeplatz is convenient for local guests and companies. Main Station is close for delegates arriving from other Swiss cities. Catering can draw on the hotel's restaurants, and room capacity suits a focused event rather than a vast convention. The ballroom and guild hall are the main spaces for larger celebrations.

Mandarin Oriental Savoy, Zurich is best for travelers who value location, history, dining, and a high share of suites. Its 80-room scale keeps the experience personal. ORSINI, Savoy Brasserie, Mandarin Lounge, and 1838 give the hotel four distinct places to eat or drink without leaving Paradeplatz.

The property suits couples, business travelers, luxury shoppers, and families using connecting rooms or the four-bedroom apartment. Lake Zurich and the Old Town are close, while trains open wider Switzerland. For a five-star hotel on Bahnhofstrasse with Michelin-starred dining and a rooftop bar, Mandarin Oriental Savoy offers one of Zurich's most complete central stays.
