Nihi Sumba is a luxury hotel located on the remote island of Sumba, Indonesia. The hotel is situated on a cliff edge overlooking the Indian Ocean and offers stunning sunset views. It has a total of 27 villas, each with a private pool. The hotel also has a spa, a restaurant, and a bar. It is an excellent place to stay for a low-key vacation.
Nihi Sumba is a return to a life of unregulated and rugged luxury. It is a place to connect with someone more significant than yourself. It is a haven for adventurers and wanderers.
You will leave with a smile on your face and a new outlook. This vacation place has a purpose. It is a destination that has meaning. This is Nihi Sumba. Sumba is located 400km west of Bali. It is one hour from Darwin and is part of the Lesser Sunda Islands. Nihiwatu is a beautiful sanctuary that lies at the edge of Sumba. It also reveals an old, fascinating culture.
This stunning all-villa resort spreads over 560 acres of natural land with panoramic views. It also includes a private beach that stretches two and a half kilometers. The villas are exceptional in design and built on large terraces with large verandahs. Moreover, the Boathouse, Ombak Restaurant, Menara Bale, and Nio Beach Club, as well as the Beach Spa and private dining pavilions, are a few of the facilities available to guests.
Nihiwatu is a place of rare discovery. Unspoiled natural beauty and tribal culture provide a backdrop for unregulated freedom and a luxurious and unforgettable experience. Exhilarating experiences include private surfing, world-class sport fishing, diving, and star-lit dining. Nihi Sumba is famous as one of the world's most coveted waves, known as God Left or Occy Left. Each stay is planned through a personal approach based on pleasure, not design.
The fascinating story of Nihiwatu begins centuries ago when Sumba's ancestors, the "marapu," arrived on the beach. Although beliefs about their powers can vary, their spirit has been a benevolent force that protects the Sumba way of life. It also attracts custodians to keep the Sumbanese stories and secrets safe.
In 1988, the Nihiwatu beach attracted Petra Graves and Claude Graves, looking for the perfect wave. Their vision led to creating a resort to preserve and share the stunning beauty with all who appreciate it.
Christopher Burch, a renowned American entrepreneur who builds brands, heard stories about the beauty and freedom of Nihiwatu. He was informed that Claude sought help developing the resort's vision. Chris reached out to James McBride, a South African-born hotelier.
Sumba, which is almost three times as large as Bali, is an island in Indonesia's chain of islands. The resort is on a private stretch of gold-sand beach surrounded by tropical jungle. Although it is a long drive from Bali and an hour's flight away, this resort is worth the effort. You can also walk to local villages, while others require you to contact your butler for a horse or car ride.
The villas have personal butlers. They can arrange everything from a sunset horse ride and yoga at the open-air pavilion to hiking at Nihioka's Spa Safari. Additionally, a chocolate factory offers cocoa-making classes and treatments. There are also a variety of water-based activities, such as stand-up paddleboarding and fishing. The resort's Coconut Cove bay is where Tropicsurf instructors will take beginners. The boathouse also has a beautiful infinity pool. Canapes and sundowners in the bar shack are amazing here. You might also get to see the turtle release.
There are 27 bedroom villas with plunge pools and a tree house available in different sizes. They all have a large terrace, ocean views, and four-poster beds. The second floor also has a large master bedroom. The rooms are also decorated with exquisite details. This includes crisp white sheets on the signature canopy beds.
The interiors are also rustic and straightforward, with many teaks and marble floors. The furnishings are minimalist and unique. Minibars contain a variety of beverages, including bottled gin, lychee juice, and snacks. Besides, tea and coffee-making equipment are in cabinets.
Guests can also view DVDs in the villas' outdoor lounges. Menara, the main lounge located near reception, also has cable. Semi-open bathrooms are earthy and rich in natural colors and tones.
The hotel went to great lengths to design the dining experience for guests. Menus reflect local flavors and exotic tastes. Moreover, fresh produce comes from the organic garden on the property. Every night, local fish is caught from the coasts and prepared differently. Toast is always cooked over an open fire.
Ombak restaurant overlooks the bay. It serves a variety of western and Indonesian-style dishes. A wine expert can also help you choose the right wine, and there is an in-house sommelier.
You can also have lunch and breakfast in this dining area. It's a great way to start your stay. Plus, you can enjoy fresh fish, pizza at The Boat, and more at Nio Beach Club. Nihioka serves vegetarian food, but there are also a variety of vegan options.
There are many activities available for children. These include the beach, swimming pools, and bookable activities. Extra beds are available for those aged 12 years and older. You can also find extra beds for children aged six to eleven and those five years and younger. Plus, you can request babysitting services and your child's menu at dinner.
