The Setai Miami Beach

The Setai Miami Beach pairs Art Deco heritage with an Atlantic beachfront setting on Collins Avenue. Behind the street facade, natural woods and Asian design details shape Jean-Michel Gathy's interiors. The lobby flooring was salvaged from Shanghai's Old City, while dark-wood pergolas frame the courtyard's reflecting pond. The hotel's character changes through the day: the beach and pools draw guests outside, and the courtyard becomes a lively dining and entertainment space after dark.

The three infinity pools are kept at different temperatures. The lap pool is set at 75 degrees Fahrenheit, the central pool at 85 degrees and the family pool at 90 degrees. Sixteen cabanas line the pool area.

Beyond the pools, the hotel's beachfront service provides chairs, umbrellas and food and drinks on the sand. Attendants bring orders to your chair, so lunch and refreshments can be served without returning to the restaurants. The hotel has direct beach access, with the Atlantic as the backdrop to this part of the stay.

The Art Deco building was designed by Henry Hohauser and opened as the Dempsey-Vanderbilt hotel in 1937. Today it houses Studio, Junior and One Bedroom Suites. Studios measure 582 to 610 square feet and face the ocean, courtyard or city. Junior Suites have 684 square feet with a city outlook. At 786 square feet, the One Bedroom Suite separates the bedroom from a living room with a daybed. Teakwood walls and large windows shape these interiors, with ocean, courtyard or city views available.

Pool Villas occupy the second floor above the spa building and face east toward the pools. Accessible Art Deco Studio Suites have adapted showers, toilets and sinks, along with mobility and hearing features.

Across the accommodation, Duxiana king beds are made with Frette linens. Bathrooms have soaking tubs, rainfall showers and two vanities, with Twin Palms X The Setai bath products. Nespresso machines and Apple TV are part of the in-room setup, and in-suite dining runs around the clock. Professional laundry and dry-cleaning services can be arranged through the hotel.

The modern tower contains one- to four-bedroom Ocean Suites. One Bedroom Ocean Suites measure 847 to 900 square feet and have private balconies. Larger layouts range from 1,312 to 2,812 square feet, with equipped Sub Zero kitchens. Two Oceanfront two-bedroom suites can be combined into a four-bedroom arrangement.

The four-bedroom Grand Suite has 3,552 square feet, a cedar sauna, two living rooms and a dining table for eight. Above it, the Penthouse spans the entire fortieth floor. This four-bedroom, 10,000-square-foot suite has a private rooftop pool, a kitchen and dining space for ten, with views across the ocean and city.

Executive Chef Vijayudu Veena leads Jaya's cooking, which draws on Chinese, Indian, Thai and Balinese dishes. Tandoor preparations and wok-cooked curries share the menu with Peking duck. Breakfast and dinner are served daily, with lunch on weekdays. The indoor dining room and courtyard give the restaurant two settings, with the open-air space becoming part of the evening's entertainment.

The Asian Night Bazaar brings aerialists, contortionists and a resident DJ into the courtyard each night. Performances accompany dinner from six until eleven, with tables in the open-air setting.

Saturday and Sunday brunch runs from eleven fifteen until three. The selection includes a caviar station, seafood tower, grilled meats and fish, Peking duck and a live dessert bar. Sunday's brunch has live jazz, while Saturday's soundtrack draws on electro-lounge and chillout music.

At Japón, chefs Vijayudu Veena and Iván Monzón serve contemporary Japanese cuisine, accompanied by a substantial sake selection. Dinner is served each evening from six until eleven. On Thursdays, temaki is rolled to order at the sushi bar, with fish, seasoned rice and nori assembled for each guest. The restaurant's open-air courtyard also hosts music and performances.

Saladino Design Studios gave Japón a torii gate facing the hotel courtyard and an interior ceiling of undulating wood. Hand-painted murals and moss decorate the outdoor space. Inside, porcelain feather tiles and a mosaic mural add texture to the dining room, alongside Japanese artwork.

For private dining, Japón's Kyoto Room accommodates groups of eight to sixteen and has access to the Kyoto Bar. Jo's Bar sits between Jaya and Japón, serving cocktails and Japanese whisky, including Hakushu. Its seasonal cocktail selection includes the Nikka Rose, Tokyo Spritz and Ocean Paloma.

Ocean Grill takes dining toward the water, with an open-air beachfront setting and Mediterranean-Italian cooking. Fresh pasta and seafood form part of the menu, while the seafood tower combines oysters, Maine lobster, ceviche, crudo and shrimp cocktail. Lunch is served daily from eleven until five, followed by dinner from six until eleven. Beachwear and flip-flops are not part of the evening dress code.

Valmont for The Spa at The Setai has seven treatment rooms, including five couples suites, with ocean and city views. Men's and women's locker rooms include private showers, dry saunas, steam showers and a cold plunge. Spa and fitness areas admit guests aged sixteen and above; treatments for sixteen- and seventeen-year-olds require a legal guardian's consent.

The treatment menu includes a traditional Thai massage using stretches, pressure points and a warmed herbal bundle. It is performed without oil, with Thai-style pajamas supplied. The Ancient Balinese massage uses palming and light stretching at light to medium pressure, in sixty- or ninety-minute sessions. For a facial, the ninety-minute Majestic treatment combines Japanese kobido massage with Valmont's L'Elixir des Glaciers products. Appointments run from ten in the morning until seven in the evening.

The fitness center is open twenty-four hours, with Peloton bikes, Technogym equipment, a Pilates Reformer and free weights. Beach yoga takes place at eight thirty on Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings. Private yoga, Pilates and personal training can also be arranged through the spa.

The address is 2001 Collins Avenue. The Bass, Miami Beach Convention Center, Lincoln Road and New World Symphony are within walking reach. This places art, performances and shopping close to the beachfront base, with the concierge available to help arrange time elsewhere in Miami.

Miami International Airport is approximately fifteen miles away. Arrival is by road, with the journey time dependent on traffic. Valet parking and electric-car charging are available at the hotel.
