The Carlyle

The Carlyle

The Carlyle, a Rosewood Hotel, has been a timeless classic since its debut in 1930. This quintessential New York hotel is as much a landmark for its distinguished guests and celebrated entertainers as it is for its refined style and old-world charm, providing a quiet and genteel "home away from home" to the world's elite. Steps away from Central Park, The Carlyle offers its guests gracious and romantic dining in The Carlyle Restaurant, nightly jazz in Bemelmans Bar with its classic cocktails and whimsical murals by famed Madeline author Ludwig Bemelmans, and a true New York experience in the famed Cafe Carlyle where entertainer Bobby Short has performed for more than three decades.

Superbly positioned on chic Madison Avenue, The Carlyle is surrounded by the galleries and designer boutiques of New York's exclusive Upper East Side. Minutes from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Guggenheim, the Whitney, and the Frick, the Hotel is steps away from what is commonly referred to as "Museum Mile."

Rooms & Suites - Each of the 190 rooms and suites are individually and elegantly decorated, much like a classic private home. Every guest room and suite at The Carlyle feels like its own magnificent work of art. Accommodations offer aristocratic elegance and absolute comfort with a first-class combination of discretion and grace, featuring grand pianos and spectacular views of Central Park and the city’s skyline. Guests of The Carlyle enjoy Yves Delorme bedding, marble bathrooms with Kiehl’s toiletries, Frette bathrobes, fully stocked mini-bar, flat-screen television with Time Warner Digital Cable, DVD players, iPod docking station, laptop-sized security boxes, high-speed wireless Internet, individual climate control, 24-hour Room Service, use of the 24-hour Fitness Studio and Business Center, Valet Services and complimentary daily newspaper.

The Sisley-Paris Spa, one of the most prestigious cosmetic brands, delivers high-quality skincare products, make-up, and fragrances. Built on a tradition of Phyto-cosmetology, Sisley offers effective, highly performing treatment methods for all skin types. Located on the third floor, Sisley Spa features the Yves Durif Hair Salon. Hairstylist to the stars, Yves Durif, provides guests with the utmost grooming and pampering on the Upper East Side. The spa also features four treatment rooms, a relaxation room, a special couple’s suite, and separate men’s and women’s changing rooms, each with their own steam room.

With all its luxurious and modern conveniences, the Carlyle has a rich history of having been the hotel of choice for President Kennedy, Diana Princess of Wales, and an endless list of world leaders, business elite, and luminaries from stage and screen. The hotel is glorious proof that one need not be a Manhattan resident to feel like one.

Dining - ''Café Carlyle'' - The golden age of New York cabaret comes alive each night at Café Carlyle. With an authentic Manhattan backdrop and a soundtrack that is classic cabaret, Café Carlyle is known for headlining incredible talents, including Laura Benanti, Alan Cumming, Judy Collins, and Woody Allen, who regularly appears with the Eddy Davis New Orleans jazz band. Music has always been an essential part of The Carlyle, and it is on spectacular display at the Café Carlyle since its debut in 1955.

''The Carlyle Restaurant" - A classic New York destination, The Carlyle Restaurant offers guests an elegant and chic dining experience. Executive Chef Ron Pietruszka has created a menu of classic American cuisine with a European flair that features favorites such as Dover Sole and Lobster Bisque, in addition to seasonal specialties. The restaurant’s mirrored alcoves and dramatic six-foot-tall floral arrangement complete the intimate country house ambiance.

''The Gallery'' - Inspired by the sultan's dining room at the Topkapi Palace in Turkey, The Gallery is an exquisite, private retreat for refined dining. Divided into two tiers, it was designed by the legendary decorator Renzo Mongiardino for comfort and elegance. With deep red wallpapers, banquettes made from antique kilims, and red-fringed velvet chairs, guests are tempted to linger. The Gallery features a modern twist on classics, such as Hudson Valley Foie Gras Torchon and assorted house-made Pâtés. The Gallery also serves a complete English tea with exotic teas (including Assam, Lapsang Souchang, and Verveine), traditional tea sandwiches, scones with authentic Devonshire cream, and fresh pastries.

''Bemelmans Bar'' - Named in honor of Ludwig Bemelmans, the creator of the classic Madeline children’s books, Bemelmans Bar is a timeless location that continues to attract socialites, politicians, movie stars, and moguls with its extensive drink menu and nightly live entertainment. The Upper East Side bar maintains its Art Deco legacy with chocolate-brown leather banquettes, nickel-trimmed black glass tabletops, a dramatic black granite bar, and a 24-karat gold leaf-covered ceiling. Guests are charmed by its distinct New York style and the large-scale murals in the hotel bar, the only surviving Bemelmans' commission open to the public.

''Madeline Tea''- Available seasonally, the beloved Madeline children’s books are brought to life by veteran storyteller Tina de Varon, as she plays the piano and sings along with children and parents alike to tell the adventures of Madeline. Celebrating 15 seasons, it’s the perfect opportunity to spend time with your family in the famed Bemelmans Bar at The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel, which houses the only public surviving work of Ludwig Bemelmans, author and illustrator of the treasured Madeline storybook series. Enjoy various child-friendly buffet treats, including chicken fingers, sliders, mini bagels, pastries, cupcakes, and more.
