A visit to the Wailea coast of Maui will reinforce the natural delight that Hawaii conjures in minds worldwide. Plus, the best place to satisfy your fantasies is none other than the Fairmont Kea Lani hotel.
At this exclusive beachfront resort, you can soak up all of Maui’s natural beauty, culture, and cuisine. Besides, with the hotel’s lily-padded ponds, shimmering blue pools, and tropical beaches, you're sure to get the best scenery and an authentic island experience.
Fairmont Kea Lani is a 22-acre luxury hotel that sits on Wailea’s Polo Beach's golden sands. Its name, Kea Lani, is Hawaiian for “white heaven,” which is true of the interior. However, the surrounding areas are more golden than white, but the beauty is just as enchanting. Besides, even though the hotel is secluded, recreational spots are within a mile from the property.
The resort opened up to the public in 1991. Architect Jose Luis Ezquerra is the man to thank for the slightly non-Hawaiian interior decor. This decor style came about because of his expertise lying major with Middle Eastern and Mediterranean designs.
Norfolk pines line the entrance, and patterned tiles adorn the lobby floor, with vaulted arches and geometric fountained pools. This sort of architecture exudes a calm and refined elegance. Even at the family-friendly 24-hour pool, peace is at its peak and is very much relaxing. Moreover, Ezquerra shows Hawaii’s royal past by giving the hotel a palatial aura —one that doesn’t intimidate.
The most outstanding thing about the suites is the size, each starting at 860 square feet. There are 450 suites and 1 to 3 bedroom villas in this hotel — all massive in size. Additionally, the warm color palette, wooden furniture, and carpeting give the space sophistication.
Scattered around the living room and bedroom areas are sleeper sofas, small kitchens, a large, comfy bed, coffeemakers, and two flat-screen TVs. Wi-Fi access is also available for a small fee, which also covers the use of other hotel amenities.
Some other suites have a larger kitchen and a massive balcony with an outdoor dining set. Furthermore, villas are a lot more furnished with two or three bedrooms, a private outdoor plunge pool, barbecue grills, and full-in-unit washer-dryers. Besides, because of the recent renovation that the hotel underwent, stunning Pacific Ocean views overshadow the minimalist decor.
Moreover, the luxe marble bathrooms in each suite and luxury villa contain walk-in showers, soaking tubs, dual marble sinks, bathrobes, and Le Labo toiletries.
This luxury hotel has several upscale restaurants you can dine in. The Kea Lani Restaurant, a poolside dining area, offers breakfast in a buffet style. Besides, Hawaiian fusion restaurant K? serves regional Hawaiian cuisine for lunch and dinner every day.
Nick’s Fishmarket serves freshly caught seafood, along with a collection of wines — 2,000 bottles exactly. Both the K? and Nick’s Fishmarket restaurants have excellent views of the ocean and the beach. Also, the Ama Bar and Grill has poolside seating for dining on casual Hawaiian dishes.
If you’re more of a light snacker, Makana Market offers coffee, pastries, sandwiches, salads, and pizza. Besides, the Luana Lounge will have you dining in a beautifully decorated space, with live entertainment and rum as bonuses. There’s also the in-room dining option if you prefer having your meals in the comfort of your room.
The Willow Stream Spa offers a diverse range of treatments in their treatment rooms and a beachfront cabana. The spa also has a Maui mud bar, a hot lava stone footbed, steam rooms and hammams, and Hawaiian rain showers.
A sauna is also available for a rejuvenating and relaxing experience. Moreover, the resort’s 24-hour fitness center has a wide range of Technogym cardio equipment for fitness. Towels and water are also provided for guests in the fitness center. Besides, yoga and aqua aerobics classes are kept in the adults-only pool.
You can coordinate and celebrate ceremonies like weddings and birthdays in The Pacific Terrace, a semi-private Tropical Gazebo, or the famous Polo Lawn. There’s also a business center in the lobby offering boarding pass printing.
Other water activities you can partake in are scuba diving, sailing, paddling, and general island excursions. Besides, the hotel staff offer lessons in these activities. There’s so much you can do and experience at Fairmont Kea Lani Maui hotel, and all intensely engaging.
Most guests would agree that one of Fairmont Kea Lani's best features is the private Polo Beach. This is a refreshing feeling because most of Hawaii’s beaches are public. Of course, outsiders can access the beach through the small parking lot next to the resort; however, the partakers are mainly guests.
Color-coded flags are placed in the sand to notify all of safety conditions. Besides, the hotel offers beach chairs and umbrellas to relax and soak up the sun. The ocean waters are also ideal for snorkeling, canoeing, and kayaking and are perfectly safe for children.
Fairmont Kea Lani’s amenities include various swimming pools — one adults-only and another for kids and families. Both have a water slide and swim-up bar. What's more, there is a quieter adult pool near the K? restaurant and bar.
The third, amorphous lagoon pool, is large, with basketball nets, footbridges, and two whirlpools. Cabanas are available for rent to guests, too. Besides, a kid’s club is on the property and offers educational walks and excursions on the beach.
Next to the resort are Wailea’s three-championship golf courses and tennis courts. To complete your Hawaiian experience, they offer Hawaiian cultural activities like language lessons, native plant tours, and hula and ukulele lessons. Guests can also go shopping in the many boutiques in Wailea.
Maui locals claim that Maui no ka oi (Maui is the best), and after your stay at Fairmont Kea Lani, you will no doubt agree. Everything is perfect — services, amenities, food, spa treatments — they're all spot on. A Hawaiian experience such as this might be the first, but that doesn’t make it any less exciting.
