The Grand Golf Club's private course follows the canyon landscape over eighteen holes. Designed by Tom Fazio, the par-72 layout stretches to 7,160 yards, with changes of elevation and varied bunkering. The final hole crosses a stream toward a waterfall, with the clubhouse just beyond the finish.

Resort guests can arrange a tee time through the Golf Pro Shop. Forecaddies are available to advise on distances and strategy, and rental clubs can be reserved. Nearly seven acres are devoted to practice areas, including a driving range and short-game greens. Range-only visits carry a separate fee. Collared shirts and golf attire are required on the course.

Elsewhere on the grounds, one tennis court and four pickleball courts can be reserved for a fee. The concierge has a trail map with three walking or jogging routes around the resort's perimeter. These follow the edge of the property with views into the canyon. Bike rentals provide another way to spend time outside.

A Deluxe Veranda Room measures 550 square feet and has either a king bed or two queen beds. Located on the second and third floors, these rooms have a balcony with seating and views over the grounds; some king rooms overlook the Relaxation Pool. The marble bathroom has a deep soaking tub, two basins and a separate shower. A Nespresso machine, kettle and wet-bar area are also provided.

The Signature Fireside Adult Only Room occupies the first floor. Its enclosed terrace has a private firepit and direct access to the Relaxation Pool. Inside is a king bed, with the room reserved for two adults.

Del Mar Suites have 1,000 square feet divided between a bedroom and a separate living room. A king bed and a sofa bed in the parlor accommodate up to four guests. Two bathrooms serve the suite, with marble finishes, a soaking tub and a separate shower among their features. These suites are on the second and third floors.

The Paseo Suite starts with a 1,500-square-foot layout, including a fireplace, kitchenette and dining table seating eight. Two balconies or terraces look over the resort grounds. The base arrangement has a king bed and a parlor sofa bed for up to four guests; two- and three-bedroom versions can also be arranged.

Villa Brisa is a three-bedroom residence with 4,500 square feet across two floors, linked by a private elevator. A full kitchen, media room and laundry facilities sit alongside the living spaces. There are four full bathrooms and a half bathroom, and the published capacity is six adults and two children.

Large windows face the golf course, while the outdoor dining area has a grill. Fireplaces add to the residential character inside. Villa Sorrento offers a single-story alternative with three bedrooms, a kitchenette, fireplace and private patio. Villa Loggia is another three-bedroom residence in the resort's villa collection.

Addison by William Bradley holds three Michelin stars. Bradley's ten-course tasting menu draws on regional ingredients and influences, served in a bluff-top dining room with tall ceilings and arched windows. The hillside remains in view as the light changes outside. A wine cellar stands at the center of the restaurant, with a list spanning small producers, rare Champagnes and wines from around the world. Dinner is served Tuesday through Saturday.

Amaya serves California cooking on a flower-lined terrace overlooking the canyon and in an indoor dining room with deep red accents. Breakfast and dinner run daily, with lunch on weekdays and brunch on Saturday and Sunday. The kitchen draws on local farms and coastal ingredients, and children's menus are available.

The Clubhouse Grill is open to non-golfers as well as players. Its fairway views accompany a casual menu of salads, sandwiches and shrimp tacos, with wine, beer and cocktails. Service starts early in the morning and continues through lunch into the afternoon.

The resort has four heated pools. Three form the family-friendly Resort Pool area, where underwater music and a patch of white sand for building sandcastles add to the setting. Shaded cabanas can be reserved in advance. The sand is beside the pool, not on an ocean beach.

The adults-only Relaxation Pool is by the spa. Pool access is for resort guests and club members, with this pool also available to spa visitors who have a booked treatment or wellness day pass.

The spa spans 21,000 square feet and has twelve treatment rooms, including a couples' suite. Separate men's and women's lounges have stone fireplaces, steam and sauna areas, and indoor whirlpools. Outside is a shared relaxation area with another whirlpool. The spa welcomes guests aged eighteen and over for massages, facials and body treatments.

The indoor fitness center uses Technogym's Artis equipment and is open around the clock with a guestroom key. Pilates, yoga and conditioning classes take place in the Movement Studio or on the Canyon Terrace. Personal training sessions can be booked by appointment.

Explorer's Club runs supervised sessions with painting, friendship bracelets, board games and puzzles, plus air hockey and foosball. Hourly, half-day and full-day options are available. From September through May, weekday visits require a reservation with forty-eight hours' notice. Evening sessions also need an advance request.

The Junior Golf Academy offers clinics for children aged five to twelve, covering grip, posture and course etiquette. Sessions are available to overnight resort guests and members, subject to space.

San Diego International Airport is approximately twenty miles away. The concierge can arrange a taxi, private car or rental vehicle for the onward journey. Valet parking is available at the resort, along with electric-car charging subject to availability. Del Mar's beaches and the wider San Diego coastline are outings from this inland address.

Why we love this hotel

Why we love this hotel

Three heated family pools and a separate adults-only Relaxation Pool give guests a choice between children's swimming time and a quieter setting.

Addison's ten-course tasting menu centres on California ingredients, offering a full evening of dining without needing to travel into central San Diego.

Mansion of Art displays changing paintings and sculptures, with private viewings by appointment offering an indoor cultural break from the resort's outdoor activities.
