''28 Hubin Road'' - Back on the 1/F, 28 Hubin Road is the hotel’s signature Chinese restaurant, which has been voted one of ‘Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants’ by regional industry insiders, the only hotel restaurant in Mainland China to have made a list, for three consecutive years. Additionally, in late 2018, it ranked 111th out of 1,000 Outstanding Restaurants in La Liste’s worldwide review aggregator. Led by Chef Colin Cheng, the dedicated culinary team specializes in authentic cuisine from Hangzhou and Suzhou to the north and Huaiyang to the west. Traditional recipes have been refined and elevated to reach the perfect balance of flavor and presentation. Show-stopping signature dishes include Beggar’s Chicken baked in lotus leaves and non-toxic clay and a picture-perfect pyramid of Dongpo Pork. To complement the cuisine, 28 Hubin Road houses a cellar of 2,500 international wines—the largest collection in Hangzhou—and was awarded a triple-glass rating in the 2018 China’s Wine List of the Year Awards. Designed to resemble an elegant Song dynasty mansion, featuring an abundance of rich rosewood and natural stone, the duplex comprises a courtyard, main dining room, and seven private dining rooms.
''Grand Hyatt Steakhouse'' - Grand Hyatt Hangzhou offers two venues for celebratory dining. As its moniker implies, Grand Hyatt Steakhouse on the 2/F specializes in exclusive cuts of meat, alongside premium seafood, prepared in an open kitchen equipped with a Pira charcoal oven from Spain. The sumptuous space, furnished in dark wood paneling and engraved antiqued glass, offers a highly curated wine list focused on shiraz for steak and chardonnay for seafood, as well as the largest selection of wines by the glass in Hangzhou.
''Grand Café'' - At Grand Hyatt Hangzhou, a culinary journey might commence at Grand Café, the hotel’s all-day dining venue that aims to offer an unparalleled buffet experience in Hangzhou. Show kitchens showcase chefs' expert skills as they provide live culinary theatre and prepare dishes à la minute, from handmade noodles to dim sum, from tempura to teppanyaki. ''Patio'' - Beyond Grand Café, Patio is a casual indoor and outdoor dining space overlooking West Lake specializing in fresh pasta and pizza accompanied by a curated Italian wines list. During summer, barbecues are the highlight, and in early evening, an aperitivo menu whets the appetite. A live DJ on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evening adds a musical backdrop. ''Pastry Boutique'' - Alternatively, guests might opt for a quick bite at the bar counter of Pastry Boutique to the left of the Lobby, which offers freshly baked pastries and cakes—locally inspired flavors as well as traditional European treats, alongside premium tea and coffee expertly prepared by a barista.
''Lobby Lounge'' - When guests arrive at the hotel, they walk through the Lobby Lounge, an airy space furnished with comfortable sofas and tub chairs where guests can do business over coffee, socialize over afternoon tea or have a pre-dinner drink. Guests can choose between the lively main lobby space or the intimate 2/F area overlooking the lobby accessed by a dramatic pair of curvilinear staircases. Come evening. ''The Antique Door'' - For special occasions, The Antique Door is an indulgent, Art Deco-inspired drinking venue with two contrasting areas. On entering, guests discover a glamorous front bar in a pale palette of cream and grey beneath an eye-catching gold antiqued-glass ceiling. Dominating the space is a spectacular, 1.2-meter wide pendant light in the shape of an upturned tree. Floor-to-ceiling linen-damask curtains reveal a moody, hidden antechamber cocooned in a navy wall and ceiling mural and furnished with red leather tub chairs and plush banquettes. The drinks menu focuses on Champagne, whisky, high-quality cocktails, and live Latin and jazz musicians provide entertainment.
Area Attractions - As one of China’s seven ancient capitals, Marco Polo described as ‘the finest and most splendid city in the world,’ there is no shortage of sights to see in Hangzhou. West Lake focuses on the city’s most popular attractions, and Grand Hyatt Hangzhou on its north shore is perfectly placed to access them all.
Tip - Try the Braised “dongpo” pork, chestnut pancakes, traditional “Hangzhou” style - This melt-in-the-mouth Hangzhou dish is said to have been created 900 years ago by the Song-dynasty poet and gastronome Su Dongpo. While engrossed in a game of Chinese chess, Su supposedly forgot about the pork belly braising on his stove, resulting in a dish that was even tastier and more tender than expected. At 28 Hubin Road, pork belly is slowly braised in soy sauce, huangjiu (yellow wine), and smoked bamboo shoots before being eaten with chestnut pancakes.
China National Tea Museum - The China National Tea Museum focuses on tea and its culture and is clustered around the tea plantations. Inside the museum, the flower corridors, artificial hills, ponds, and waterside pavilions are well integrated, creating a park to the south of the Yangzi River with a clean atmosphere where visitors can feel close to nature.
