The Mandarin Oriental Palace Luzern is a 5-star hotel in Lucerne, Switzerland. It offers stunning views of the city and the nearby mountains. Besides, its central location makes it the perfect base for exploring all Lucerne offers. In addition, the hotel has an onsite restaurant, bar, spa, sauna, and outdoor swimming pool. It's perfect for a family vacation.
After a spectacular renovation, the iconic Belle Époque Lucerne is reopening as Mandarin Oriental Palace Luzern. The hotel is situated on Lake Lucerne, offering breathtaking views over the Swiss Alps. It has 136 rooms and suites and four unique contemporary dining options. The hotel's service combines with leisure and spa facilities.
The hotel also offers a rooftop terrace, a cafe, and a library. In addition, the spa SPA Bellefontaine provides a relaxing massage. You can also enjoy French cuisine or al fresco dining at one of the three onsite restaurants. Besides, there is dry cleaning/laundry, a bar, and a gym open 24 hours a day.
The multilingual staff, from the friendly concierge to the cheerful housekeeping staff, could charm the alpine swifts along Lake Lucerne's promenade.
The bar/lounge is also open for drinks. The hotel has a 24-hour business center. This hotel has event space measuring 4725 square feet (439 sq m) and includes conference rooms. The hotel also has a library. Parking is available for a fee. Afternoon tea is also available. Furthermore, this 5-star Lucerne hotel allows smoking in designated areas.
Mandarin Oriental Palace Luzern sits on a lake in an area that offers good shopping. Loewenplatz, Saint Peter's Church, and the Lakeside Promenade are notable landmarks. Moreover, the Natur- und Tierpark Goldau and the Richard Wagner Museum are worth a visit. You can also explore the area for water adventures like kayaking or other golf activities.
The Palace was built during The Silver Age of Alpinism in 1906. It was a time when adventurers and Queen Victoria visited Switzerland's peaks and crystalline lakes. The original Bucher family founders controlled it for nearly 100 years. It survived two World Wars and four Wall Street crashes and was sold in 2008. After a five-year renovation, the hotel was reborn as a Mandarin Oriental.
They retained the palace moniker as a tribute to the hotel's rich history. The London-based firm Jestico + Whiles was hired to transform the building, a Belle Epoque beauty worthy of today. They stripped away all layers of old alterations to reveal the original checkerboard marble floors and stucco walls, set against vast expanses of cool white. It is a stunning result.
There are subtle differences in the layouts of the 136 rooms and suites. However, each has views of Lake Lucerne or the magnificent shards at Mount Pilatus. The surrounding colors change from pistachio and caramel to mauve, slate to slate, olive, and indigo, depending on the weather. This palette has been carefully incorporated into the more minimalist rooms. Substantial doors lead to Swiss oak floors and ivory-white paneled walls. Besides, the ceiling molding is simple, and the window frames are beautiful. Modernity is added by Orbital brass lamps, Tisca woolen rugs, and more.
The Presidential Suite is on the top floor. It sits under the Palace's copper dome. It's luxuriously decorated in gold and indigo. But the panoramic rooftop terrace suite is the one to book. It has a stunning deck and dizzying views.
Chef Gilad Peled and Le Presser d'Argent are two of the chefs here. It was their job to deliver three Michelin stars in a year. One gong each for Minamo, a six-seat Japanese kaiseki dining area, and two for Colonnade.
There's also Quai 10, a Mediterranean restaurant that spills onto the terrace. This restaurant serves a delicious breakfast featuring bowls of nutty Granola, jams, and more.
SPA Bellefontaine offers massage/treatment rooms. The spa also has a sauna as well as a steam room. Besides, it is open every day. For spa services and massages, guests will have to make reservations. Therefore, contact the property at the number listed on the booking confirmation before you arrive.
Also, a petite wellness suite is on the second floor. It includes a sauna, steam room, and experience showers. Although there is no pool, the Seebad lake pool can be used for traditional spa-ing during the summer.
This hotel is ideally located to explore the outdoor delights of Lake Lucerne. A 10-minute walk from your front door will take you on a walking tour through the Old Town. This area features ancient bridges, domed churches, and mural-covered medieval buildings. You can also take one of the paddle steamer cruises or boats that leave the quays visible. Then, take the steepest cogwheel funicular in the world to Mount Pilatus. Or, book an electric bike from the hotel and make a loop of the lake, stopping at art-filled gardens and swimming bays.
