The Three Kings inn first appears in the historical record in 1681. The main hotel building followed in 1844, to a design by Basel architect Amadeus Merian. That history is visible in the formal public rooms and in the continued use of the hotel as a meeting place, with restaurants and bars open to local visitors as well as overnight guests.

Blumenrain 8 contains the main house's classically furnished rooms and suites. River King Rooms measure approximately 32 square meters, with king or twin beds. A balcony is a separate category choice, not a feature of every river-facing room. At Blumenrain 2, River Junior Suites measure around 52 to 55 square meters and have king beds and direct Rhine views.

The Napoleon Suite has about 70 square meters, a separate living room, painted-sky ceiling, and balcony overlooking the Rhine. Up to two additional beds can be requested. For a larger party, Suite des Rois spans approximately 240 square meters at Blumenrain 2. Two king bedrooms, a private gym, a pantry kitchen, and a dining room for eight accompany its lounge and bar. Cheval Blanc by Peter Knogl holds three Michelin stars and 19 GaultMillau points. Its French haute cuisine incorporates Mediterranean and Asian influences, with both tasting-menu and à la carte choices. Antiques, chandeliers, and fine fabrics establish the dining room's formal character. When the weather permits, an aperitif or digestif can be taken on the terrace overlooking the Rhine. The setting and the food carry equal weight in the evening: this is a meal to reserve as part of the visit, rather than leave to a casual decision on arrival.

The restaurant requests elegant dress. Men are asked to wear long trousers and a long-sleeved shirt; sportswear, sneakers, and sandals are excluded. Dogs are not admitted. These are specific dining-room requirements, separate from the atmosphere elsewhere in the hotel.

Brasserie Les Trois Rois serves Swiss and French cooking built around market-fresh, regional, and seasonal ingredients. The menu balances a seasonal set menu with established brasserie classics. Zurich-style veal with rösti and sole meunière express that cross-border character without turning the meal into a tasting-menu occasion. Vegetarian choices are also present, including a vegetarian version of the seasonal menu. Swiss cheeses and desserts complete the selection, with an evening dessert trolley among the room's traditional touches. Lunch and dinner are served on the restaurant's scheduled service days.

BANKS looks across the Rhine and the Old Town, with a European-Asian menu intended for sharing. The dining room and bar form a social setting in their own right, with art and design surrounding the tables. A group can order dishes for the center of the table, while the bar also serves snacks alongside drinks. Dinner and selected lunch services make it possible to use the space at different points in a stay.

Bar Les Trois Rois draws both Basel residents and hotel guests. Alongside cocktails, its daytime selection includes coffee, hot chocolate, tea, and bar food. The house tea is created by L'art du thé in Lucerne, combining Darjeeling leaves from three picking seasons. It is a small, specific house detail within a bar that works through the day, not only before dinner.

Afternoon tea is served in the lobby or on the terrace, with sandwiches, sweet pastries, and teas from the same Lucerne tea house. It has its own reserved sittings, distinct from simply ordering a drink at the bar. The hotel does not prepare this service in vegan, lactose-free, or gluten-free versions, a useful distinction for guests whose dietary needs determine where they take tea.

The Council is a two-level cigar lounge and humidor gallery by Herzog & de Meuron. Ceramic tiles, bronze panels, and oiled oak give this compact space a markedly different texture from the main bar. Two walk-in humidors and cabinets hold a selection with a strong Cuban emphasis. Cigar and cocktail pairings are part of the service. Seating is limited.

Seijaku takes its inspiration from Japanese bathing and massage traditions. Its wellness spaces include a sauna, bio-sauna, steam room, relaxation room, and fireplace. Outside, the rooftop cold-water bath is open to the sky, with views across Basel. This is a plunge bath, not a lap pool. Massages can be combined with supplementary treatments according to individual preferences. Treatment appointments can be arranged in advance, with the spa team discussing preferences before the session.

Seijaku has a minimum age of 16, and is a phone-free area. The fitness studio has exercise machines and is open around the clock. Families choosing extra beds or connecting accommodation should note that the wellness age limit remains separate from the bedroom arrangements.

EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg is the local air gateway. The hotel's public-transport directions use airport bus 50 to Basel SBB station, followed by tram 8 or 11 to Schifflände. From Basel's Badischer Bahnhof, tram 6 runs to the same stop. These rail and tram connections make the address practical for a wider Swiss or cross-border itinerary. Drivers can use the hotel's valet parking service, with arrival at Blumenrain 8. The riverfront and Old Town are then immediately outside, rather than a separate transfer from the hotel.
