Paola Navone's interiors keep the age of the building visible without relying on dark colors or heavy decoration. Whitewashed walls, pale tones and soft furnishings sit alongside terracotta floors and preserved Renaissance frescoes. The castle supplies the historic detail. Modern furniture leaves room to notice it, rather than adding more layers of decoration. High ceilings and daylight help the spaces feel open rather than solemn.

Not every room has the same historic features or outlook. Estate Rooms range from 21 to 38 square meters, with queen or twin beds. They face the courtyard or gardens. Their bathrooms have either a freestanding bathtub or a shower stall. Tavarnelle Rooms are larger, at 36 to 50 square meters, and look toward the gardens or countryside. These categories give a couple a choice between a more compact castle room and extra space with a different outlook.

Loft Suites put the bedroom on a mezzanine above the living room. Their 55 to 81 square meters are spread over two levels, making the layout as important as the floor area. Heritage Suites take a different approach: at 70 to 77 square meters, they occupy the main building and retain frescoed walls, ceilings and fireplaces. These are the rooms where the castle's decorative history becomes part of the private space.

The two-bedroom COMO Suite sits in the Belvedere outbuilding. It measures 90 square meters, with a living area and views across the Chianti countryside. That separate-bedroom arrangement gives families an alternative to a larger room with extra beds. Across the categories, the choices are quite specific: a loft, frescoes or two bedrooms each changes the stay in a different way.

The wellness facilities give the hotel substance beyond its castle setting. COMO Shambhala has five individual treatment suites and two rooms for couples. Massages sit alongside a thermal suite with a gentle sauna, aromatic steam room, ice fountain, invigorating shower and heated vitality pool. A relaxation room looks out over the countryside, keeping the hills in view even during an afternoon spent inside.

Movement has its own spaces, too. Alongside the yoga studio is a Pilates studio with Cadillac-Reformer machines. Both scheduled sessions and private lessons are available. This makes a wellness stay more varied than a series of massage appointments. A guest can spend time on guided movement, use the thermal facilities or simply rest between treatments. Couples with different interests have room to follow their own pace: one might choose a class while the other settles into the relaxation room.

Outside, the heated swimming pool stretches for 25 meters and opens during the summer months. It is separate from the spa's vitality pool, with space for a proper swim as well as time beside the water. There is also a fitness center, one tennis court and one padel court. Together, these give active guests several ways to exercise on the estate without making every outing a drive into the surrounding towns.

La Torre holds one Michelin star, with chef Giovanni Luca Di Pirro leading the kitchen. His contemporary Italian cooking draws on local producers and vegetables grown on the estate. The current menus explore three directions: vegetables, meat and seafood. That range gives the restaurant more breadth than a single account of Tuscan country cooking, while keeping its ingredients tied to the place.

Dinner is served Tuesday through Saturday, with reservations required. La Torre is the more focused evening meal within the hotel, but it does not have to define every night of a stay. Its menu choices make vegetables a subject in their own right, alongside the meat and seafood routes. For guests interested in the kitchen garden, that is a meaningful connection between the land outside and what arrives at the table.

Pavilion handles breakfast and all-day dining, with views over the hills, vineyards and olive groves. Mediterranean dishes share the menu with international favorites and COMO signature dishes. Lunch and dinner take a less formal form here. Menus change with the season and the produce available, while the landscape remains part of the meal. It is a place for a relaxed lunch as much as an evening at the table.

La Taverna occupies the castle's former kitchen. Its current role centers on evening drinks, from cocktails and mocktails to Champagne, grappa and other spirits. A large open fire gives the room a different character in winter. The old kitchen is a fitting place for an aperitif: somewhere to spend time with the building itself, rather than treating its history as a detail passed on the way to dinner.

The wider estate contains two distinct alternatives to the hotel's 50 rooms and suites. Villa San Luigi is a private five-bedroom villa with its own pool. Podere San Filippo is a restored farmhouse with twelve self-catering apartments. Neither should be confused with a room category inside the castle. They bring a house or apartment arrangement to the same rural setting, with more independence over daily life.

For guests at Podere San Filippo, the hotel's restaurants, wellness experiences and estate activities are available at an additional cost. The apartment setting therefore suits a different kind of stay from the main hotel. A kitchen and separate household routine may matter more for a family visit than sleeping within the historic building.

Four paths cross the estate, with guided walks available. Exploring the grounds brings the vineyards and olive groves closer than they appear from a window. Other outings follow the region's food and wine. A professional truffle hunter leads hunts on the estate, followed by lunch. Hour-long sommelier tastings explore Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino or Super Tuscan wines. E-bike trips take guests along Chianti backroads and through villages, with winery visits among the stops.

The hotel is in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa, within today's Barberino Tavarnelle municipality. Florence and Siena remain natural excursions from this countryside base, and a scheduled shuttle serves the cities. Private transfers can also be arranged. The balance is appealing: Tuscan art and urban streets are within reach, while the return is to frescoes, a garden-facing room or a quiet table above the vines.
