There was a rustic camp built on the shores of Lake Placid in 1882 by a German family. On the porches built with twigs, they could see the reflection of Whiteface Mountain in the lake all day. Up until 1946, the camp remained a private residence before being sold. Afterward, it became one of the finest hotels in Lake Placid, New York.
A half-century after its purchase, new owners recognized the ambiance of a grand Adirondack camp on the old property. Lake Placid Lodge was completely renovated to its former glory. It became one of the most famous hotels in the area. It offered outstanding services, cuisine, and accommodations.
Unfortunately, the original camp burned to the ground due to a massive fire in the winter of 2005. However, many local artisans began reconstructing the camp immediately. They did not intend to rebuild the Lodge but rather build a hotel unmatched anywhere. One that embodied a sense of comfort and luxury in the woods.
The rustic design of Whiteface Lodge in Upstate New York recalls the glory of the historic Adirondack Great Camps of the Gilded Age. Moreover, Lake Placid's village is just a short walk away. This area is home to two Winter Olympic Games and various attractions.
