Greywalls is a Category A listed Arts and Crafts house. Much of its ground-floor interior retains original detailing, including decorative cornices, paneled doors, and marble-surrounded fireplaces. The paneled library continues the domestic scale of the building, while windows in the public rooms turn toward the gardens and Muirfield. The house was conceived with numerous bedrooms and comparatively few formal reception rooms, a proportion that still explains its intimate public spaces.

Outside, a circular forecourt leads into gardens enclosed by curving walls. Arched gateways connect lawns, hedged compartments, and borders, with a central path aligned toward the hills to the south. The Rose Garden has a cross-shaped layout. On the course-facing side, a sunken croquet lawn and a ha-ha preserve the open outlook without a tall boundary interrupting the view. Chairs and benches occupy both sunny and shaded corners of the grounds.

Main-house rooms are individually decorated with antique furnishings. Caddie's Closet rooms have single beds and views of Muirfield and the Firth of Forth. Small Doubles face the entrance and driveway, while Large Doubles look toward the gardens or golf course and have king beds that can be arranged as twins. Ground-floor Golf Wing Rooms open through French doors onto the lawn, with shower-only bathrooms. The single Premium Spa Double Room faces the gardens and has a freestanding deep bath and shower.

Six cottage bedrooms stand within the garden walls at the start of the gravel driveway: two small and four large. Small Cottage Rooms are on the first floor and have double beds and shower bathrooms. They are hotel bedrooms outside the main building, with breakfast served in the house a short walk away.

Beyond the gates, around 500 yards from Greywalls, the Colonel's House provides self-catering accommodation for up to eight guests. Built for Colonel Weaver's retirement, it has a drawing room whose French windows open onto a private garden and terrace. A fully equipped kitchen supports meals at home, and a small study provides another room away from the main sitting area.

Four principal bedrooms are upstairs, each with its own bathroom. Two bathrooms are en suite; the other two are immediately outside the bedrooms. The house also has two smaller single rooms adjoining one of the doubles and sharing bathroom facilities. The main hotel remains available for restaurant reservations and time in the gardens.

Chez Roux connects French culinary technique with seasonal Scottish ingredients and produce from the kitchen garden. Fraser Allan, Chez Roux's chef consultant in Scotland, oversees Greywalls within the group's consultancy team. Dinner centers on a three-course menu, with a dessert trolley completing the meal. The kitchen's approach carries through to a shorter seasonal lunch menu and traditional Sunday lunch, while the lounge serves sandwiches, lighter meals, and drinks beside the fire.

Afternoon tea brings artisan sandwiches, hot savory items, freshly baked scones, and cakes to the table. Albert Roux's jam and clotted cream accompany the scones, with loose-leaf tea or coffee alongside. A simpler tea-and-scones service is also available. On selected evenings, live piano in the library gives dinner a musical backdrop. The restaurant welcomes nonresidents as well as hotel guests, so the dining rooms are part of local life in Gullane as well as the overnight stay.

The Whisky Room holds a collection drawn from Scotland and farther afield, with a private table for a small group. It is one of several rooms that can be reserved for a gathering. The Original Dining Room looks over Muirfield, while the Garden Room faces the flowers and lawns. The larger Main Dining Room also has course views. For friends traveling together, these rooms allow a shared dinner in the main house even when the group is staying across hotel bedrooms and the Colonel's House.

Greywalls overlooks Muirfield's 18th green and the Firth of Forth toward Fife. The hotel has no course of its own. Its relationships with Muirfield and Archerfield Links provide access to a limited number of tee times, subject to availability and separate arrangements. A bedroom overlooking the links does not itself secure a round. Archerfield bookings through the hotel cover access to its Fidra and Dirleton courses.

The team can suggest golfing itineraries and arrange transport to other local clubs, where tee times are booked directly. Gullane has three courses on rolling ground above the coast, and North Berwick's West Links is another nearby option. Alongside the links, the hotel grounds have a putting green, with tennis and croquet also available.

Children can stay at Greywalls, with foldaway beds available by arrangement in suitable accommodation. The Colonel's House adds a kitchen and several bedrooms for a family traveling together. Dogs are also welcome by prior arrangement, but must remain out of the hotel's public rooms. They need to be leashed near the house and supervised in the gardens, and dog towels are available for the return from a muddy walk.

Spa visits take guests along the coast to The Spa at Marine North Berwick, a separate hotel where Greywalls can arrange treatments. Massages and facials are among the choices, and transport is available on request. The spa's thermal suite and hydrotherapy pool are at Marine, not within Greywalls' grounds.

Gullane Bents provides a wide sandy bay backed by dunes, with paths behind the beach and a walk west toward Gullane Point. The village has independent shops, cafes, and places to eat. These coastal walks take guests beyond Greywalls' enclosed gardens into grassland and open views across the Firth of Forth. The beach is a public stretch of coast reached from the village, not part of the hotel grounds.

Edinburgh Airport is approximately 29 miles away. Road access runs through Gullane from the A198, connecting with the A1 toward Edinburgh. The hotel's estimate of around 30 minutes from the city center depends on traffic. Chauffeured transport can be arranged separately, and parking is available for guests arriving by car. Edinburgh's museums and historic streets remain a day-trip option, while the return journey ends beside the links at Gullane.
