Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental, Abu Dhabi

The domes of Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental, Abu Dhabi face the Arabian Gulf at the western end of the Corniche. This beachfront hotel combines a large resort's gardens, pools and restaurants with an address beside Qasr Al Watan. Its 390 rooms and suites make it a substantial property, not a small palace hideaway. For a stay that leaves room for both city visits and afternoons by the water, that distinction matters: you can spend much of the day within the grounds without making the hotel your only reason to visit Abu Dhabi.

The formal arrival and domed architecture give the building its identity, but the private waterfront is just as important to a guest's stay. The estate extends along 1.3 kilometers of coastline, with gardens between the palace and the Gulf. Beyond the grounds, the western Corniche places you near the presidential palace complex and the towers of modern Abu Dhabi. The contrast between those civic landmarks and the hotel's beach is part of its appeal.

This is a resort spread across a large site. Room position deserves attention alongside the view, particularly for families with small children and guests who prefer shorter walks. A garden terrace close to the outdoor facilities may be more useful than a higher room chosen only for its outlook.

Deluxe Sea View Rooms measure 55 square meters and have balconies facing the Gulf, gardens and pools. Marble bathrooms provide a bathtub and separate shower. The size leaves space to settle in between outings, while the balcony gives the sea view a purpose beyond the window. Connecting options are available, so a pair of rooms can be a practical alternative to moving into a large suite.

At the same 55-square-meter size, Deluxe Garden Terrace Rooms trade the elevated outlook for a private terrace and access to the gardens and pool area. King and double-bed arrangements are offered. These are worth considering when the outdoor part of the stay matters more than seeing the sea from bed. The choice between terrace and balcony changes how you use the room, even when the floor area is the same.

The 110-square-meter Sea View Suite adds living and dining space, a king bedroom and a balcony. Its bathroom includes a whirlpool bath. That layout works well for travelers who want to eat in privately or keep a sitting area apart from the bedroom. It is a meaningful step up in usable space, rather than simply a different view category.

For a larger group, the Three Bedroom Palace Suite spans 470 square meters. Three linked suites form an arrangement with a majlis sitting room, dining space, a pantry and a terrace overlooking the Gulf. The appeal is the combination of shared rooms and separate sleeping areas. Families staying longer can gather for meals without using one person's bedroom as the group's meeting place.

Talea by Antonio Guida takes Italian family cooking as its starting point. Pasta, burrata and classic veal dishes anchor a menu that has enough familiarity for an easy dinner while giving Italian cooking a dedicated setting. It provides a different evening from the palace's more theatrical restaurants; not every meal here needs to revolve around a showpiece dining room.

At Strawfire by Ross Shonhan, the grill is central to both the food and the room. Japanese warayaki cooking uses burning straw to flavor meat, seafood and vegetables. Guests enter through the Tsukimi Lounge before reaching the main dining area, where the fire is in view. The cooking method is the useful distinction: this is not simply another sushi restaurant within a large hotel.

Hakkasan serves Cantonese food in an interior divided by carved screens, with a bar, lounge, private dining rooms and an outdoor terrace. Martabaan by Hemant Oberoi takes a contemporary approach to Indian cooking, with Gulf views and its own private dining spaces. Those two restaurants allow very different kinds of dinner without arranging transport across the city.

Broadway, the American brasserie and bar, is the option for comfort food and cocktails. Vendome covers all-day international dining, while Cascades places a poolside meal near the Mandarin Wing's family facilities. The variety is particularly useful over several nights: a restaurant reservation and a lunch in swimwear belong to different parts of the same stay.

Mandarin Beach and the two resort pools give the waterfront more than one focus. Families are likely to spend time at the Aqua Adventure area by the Mandarin Wing, where slides and a lazy river add activity beyond swimming. Proximity to this area can be a useful room preference when the pool is likely to shape each day's plans.

A 6.5-kilometer cycling and jogging route runs through the estate, taking in gardens, the cricket field, beach and marina. Kayaking, sailing and paddleboarding bring the Gulf into the activity choices, with arrangements dependent on conditions. Tennis and padel courts, together with the fitness centers, give guests alternatives to a day entirely on a lounger.

The 1,500-square-meter spa has a Moroccan hammam, steam facilities and treatment spaces for massages and facials. Heated marble and an ice cave form part of the bathing facilities. A hammam session is a different commitment from a short massage, so it is worth allowing time for the bathing experience itself rather than fitting it tightly between other plans.

Beachside spa cabanas provide another setting for selected treatments. They suit guests who want their spa appointment to remain part of an outdoor resort day, while the indoor spa keeps the focus on bathing and treatment rooms. The choice is between settings as much as between treatments; neither needs to become a full wellness itinerary.

Kids Palace serves children from 10 months to 12 years through age-specific spaces. Fatima and Friends is for the youngest children, while Falcon Adventures caters to ages four to 12. A Family Nest gives parents and children a place to spend time together. Confirm the suitable program and supervision arrangements for your child's age rather than treating every part as a drop-off club.

Family Deluxe Sea View accommodation connects king and twin rooms. Family Deluxe Garden Terrace rooms instead put the emphasis on ground-floor access to the gardens. Those are practical distinctions to settle before choosing a category. For arrival, the hotel gives an approximate 40-minute drive from Abu Dhabi's Zayed International Airport, with traffic affecting the journey. Once there, matching your room to the part of this extensive resort you will use most is the most useful planning decision.

Why we love this hotel

Why we love this hotel

Mandarin Beach brings time on the sand into a city stay, giving guests a place to unwind beside the Gulf without leaving the resort.

Kids Palace separates play areas for infants and toddlers from those for older children, giving different ages spaces suited to their stage.

The spa combines treatments with a hammam, steam room and sauna, so guests can allow time for relaxation before or after their appointment.
