History

The Hotel extends over the cliff of Praia da Rocha with direct access to the beach. It was built in scattered chalets that appeared in Praia da Rocha in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. After its recent remodeling, the presidents Mário Soares and Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa passed by Bela Vista, who registered their comments in the honor book.

The Original Design

Ordered to be built as the private residence of António Júdice de Magalhães Barros, a canning industrialist (1879-1960), it was inaugurated in February 1918, with the President of the Republic Sidónio Pais as the guest of honor. The "Vila de Nossa Senhora das Dores," where Magalhães Barros's five daughters grew up, was the scene of memorable parties with great artists and politicians. In 1934, the owner's cousin Henrique Bívar Vasconcelos adapted this villa into a hotel. Thus was born Bela Vista, one of the first hotels in the Algarve.

Today, a member of the French association Relais & Châteaux, the Bela Vista features 38 luxurious rooms and suites. A Michelin-starred restaurant - VISTA, and Spa by the prestigious French brand L'Occitane. The swimming pool offers guests fantastic relaxing sea views, a lounge, and a Bistro restaurant. The property present-day comprises three one-of-a-kind buildings: the Main House - Palacete, the Blue House, and the Garden House.

The Palacete offers classical and traditional décor, with beautiful Portuguese tiles, original paintings, crafted woodwork, and chandeliers. However, the actual splendor and luxury of the Manor were well kept during its century of existence. The Blue House is a beautiful example of the houses of the south of Portugal. With its traditional façade in marvelous Portuguese tiles, this building takes us back to the time of its construction, the 1930's, offering exquisite interiors. The Garden House is the most recent addition to the property. Built-in 2010, it accommodates sunny balcony rooms to the seaside and the Spa. The rooms in this building are also themed with a vintage 60's beach house decór.

The Bistrô restaurant, located at the pool terrace with beautiful views, casually serves delicious traditional Portuguese experiences. The Michelin star restaurant, VISTA, led by Chef João Oliveira - awarded by the international Gastronomy Academy "Chef de L'Avenir" 2019. The Menu takes us on a journey of excellence through traditions and authentic flavors with the ocean as its background.
