Book Maroma, A Belmond Hotel, Riviera Maya with VIP Benefits

Tara Bernerd & Partners shaped Maroma's interiors around Mexican materials and craftsmanship. White stucco buildings frame rooms with hand-painted clay tiles by ceramicist José Noé Suro. Woven textiles from Oaxaca and substantial timber doors add different textures, while the design keeps a residential feel rather than treating the resort as a single large public space.

The detail continues outside. Three pools use handmade Sukabumi volcanic-stone tiles, with turquoise tones that echo the region's cenotes. Indoors, shell chandeliers take their shapes from Maya jade jewelry. Patterned surfaces and woven pieces bring the craft close enough to notice at leisure, from the lighting overhead to the tiles beneath your feet.

The current inventory is 72 accommodations: 19 rooms, 50 suites and three villas. Garden, pool and ocean outlooks make the choice more specific than a simple progression through room sizes. Junior Suites have covered terraces, while selected oceanfront suites and villas put the beach at the center of the stay. A private pool is a feature of particular categories, not a standard amenity throughout the hotel.

Deluxe Garden View Rooms measure 31 to 39 square meters and sleep two, with views toward the gardens or pool. Deluxe Ocean View Rooms range from 28 to 41 square meters, also sleeping two, in a king bed near the beach. Their floor areas overlap. The difference is chiefly the outlook and position, so a larger room does not automatically mean a closer relationship with the sea.

Pavo Real Suite measures 85 square meters and offers direct beach access. Its terrace has a private pool and outdoor shower. The villas have distinct outdoor arrangements too. Villa Xuxú places its plunge pool on a rooftop terrace, while Villa Mariposa has a circular swimming pool on a furnished patio. These are different ways to spend time outside, rather than interchangeable versions of the same villa.

Villa Maroma has four bedrooms, a full kitchen, a bar and a large outdoor terrace beside a private pool. It gives a family or group a shared household space as well as separate bedrooms.

Casa Mayor keeps Mexican cooking at the center of hotel dining. It serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a smart-casual dress code. This is the restaurant that can anchor an ordinary day, from the first meal before the beach to dinner after an outing. Its place in the daily routine gives regional food a role beyond a single special meal.

Woodend by Curtis Stone concentrates on live-fire cooking in the evening. Seafood, local meat and plant-based dishes share the menu, with Mexican marinades, sauces and spices bringing the ingredients together. The beachside setting adds the sea to the meal, while the grill gives the cooking its focus. It is a different proposition from Casa Mayor: an evening built around the fire and the produce, with choices for diners who do not eat meat.

Freddy's Beach Bar is the casual stop for seafood, tacos, cocktails or Mexican craft beer. Its open-kitchen raw bar and beach setting keep it close to the water. The drinks also range beyond tequila, with Mexican spirits such as raicilla and corn whiskey among the choices. A light meal here can remain part of a beach afternoon rather than becoming a separate dining event.

Bambuco by Handshake takes the evening toward cocktails and small plates. It gives the resort a dedicated cocktail bar alongside the beach bar and restaurants. The four venues have distinct roles, so staying on property for several nights need not mean repeating the same kind of meal or the same setting for a drink.

Maroma Spa by Guerlain is the brand's first spa in Latin America. It has nine treatment rooms, including two for couples, and a menu of face and body treatments, massages and experiences inspired by Maya traditions. The spa gives guests a reason to spend time away from the shore without leaving the resort, with appointments that can be tailored to an individual or shared by two.

A sauna, steam-room hydrotherapy circuit, swimming pool, Jacuzzi and cold plunge extend the spa beyond its treatment rooms. These facilities give a spa visit a different focus from an afternoon beside one of the resort's outdoor pools. An on-site apothecary and temazcal add further links to the hotel's interest in regional traditions. The emphasis is on the experience itself, without needing to follow a fixed wellness program.

Near the spa, the Melipona Bee Sanctuary introduces another part of the local environment. Workshops explain the stingless bees and the work involved in protecting them. Their honey also appears in dining and spa experiences. A visit makes this more than a motif on a treatment menu: you can learn about the species while seeing the sanctuary that supports it.

The resort has three outdoor pools as well as its beach. They provide an alternative when you would prefer pool swimming to the sea. Sargassum can accumulate on the shoreline, and the hotel monitors and removes it; a Caribbean address is not a promise of seaweed-free conditions every day. The beach and pools are complementary parts of the stay.

Children aged four to twelve can join La Casita Encantada, the kids' club in an air-conditioned palapa in the jungle. Activities include art with leaves, cooking, ceramic painting and music. It gives younger guests a place of their own beyond swimming, while adults have the spa and a 24-hour fitness center. The villas add another option for families who need several bedrooms under one roof.

Guided cenote visits explore the natural pools of the Yucatán region. Stargazing offers a different kind of outing, focusing on the importance of the night sky in Maya traditions. For a longer day away, the resort can arrange visits to Tulum, Cobá or Chichén Itzá. These excursions broaden a beach holiday without making the resort itself only a place to sleep between tours.

Cancún International Airport is about 40 kilometers away, with Belmond estimating a 30-minute drive, subject to traffic. Playa del Carmen is roughly 20 minutes away by car. Maroma is not an all-inclusive resort. Its appeal is in the combination of a beach setting, rooms shaped by Mexican craft, varied dining and the Guerlain spa, with the jungle and wider Riviera Maya close by.
