The historic facade and the contemporary glass-and-steel wing give Gallia two distinct architectural expressions. Inside, Piva's design draws on Art Deco without reproducing a period interior. Lighting, reflective finishes and carefully shaped furniture introduce a more contemporary rhythm. The result is a grand hotel with a clear connection to Milan's design culture, rather than a palace furnished to look untouched by time.

That distinction continues in the materials. Wood and leather bring texture to the polished surfaces, while Italian craftsmanship gives individual pieces a reason to be noticed. The scale is generous and the styling deliberate. Travelers who enjoy architecture and interiors have details to follow throughout the building; those seeking a small, domestic townhouse should expect a much larger hotel.

There are 182 rooms and 53 suites. Handcrafted Italian furnishings, leather accents and considered lighting link the accommodation to the public interiors. Marble bathrooms use materials such as Botticino and Emperador, with bronze details recalling the Belle Epoque. These are not simply historic rooms with modern equipment added: the furnishings and finishes form part of the hotel's contemporary design.

The suite range is worth comparing by layout, not only size. An Executive Suite measures 50 square meters. Signature Suites offer 54 to 66 square meters and views toward Centrale, while the 55-square-meter Panoramic Suites occupy corners of the newer wing. Floor-to-ceiling windows and a sliding partition between sleeping and living areas distinguish the latter.

The Gallia Presidential Suite has 120 square meters, a private balcony, a dining table for six and a bathroom with a steam room. Its single-bedroom layout suits a couple who want room to host without moving into a multibedroom residence. At the other end of the range, the 1,000-square-meter Katara Royal Suite accommodates up to eight across four bedrooms. Two terraces, a kitchen and a private spa allow a family or group to spend more of the day together within the suite.

Some suites can connect to additional accommodation. Confirm the exact combination before booking, particularly when children need an adjoining room. A large dining table does not establish overnight capacity.

Terrazza Gallia brings Italian and Mediterranean cooking to the seventh floor, with the station and surrounding city forming the backdrop. The kitchen works in collaboration with the Cerea family. Alongside the restaurant, the rooftop bar gives aperitivo its own place in the evening, whether dinner follows upstairs or elsewhere in Milan. The view is distinctly urban, looking across the architecture of the station district.

Downstairs, Gallia Restaurant serves breakfast, while Gallia Lounge & Bar covers coffee, tea, light Italian dishes and drinks. The lounge leaves room for a lighter lunch between appointments. Nearby, the Library and Living Room offer another setting for time inside the hotel, with books on design and food.

For a more private meal, Terrazza Gallia has a dining room for up to ten. Wine tastings and cooking experiences can also be arranged through the hotel. These require planning rather than an assumption that a session will be available on arrival.

Gallia Health Club & Shiseido Spa Milan occupies 1,000 square meters across the sixth and seventh floors. Its upper-floor position brings daylight into the experience, and the indoor pool on the seventh floor makes swimming possible without depending on outdoor conditions. Although described as a rooftop pool, it is not an open-air pool terrace. The distinction matters if swimming is part of the reason for choosing the hotel.

The fitness area has Technogym equipment, while the spa provides treatments and spaces for heat and rest. A separately bookable Private Spa Suite contains a treatment room for two, a Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, ice room and a relaxation area. It is an option for time together away from the shared facilities, not an amenity to assume comes with every bedroom.

Families should check the access rules alongside their room choice. The sauna, steam room, salt room, ice room, relaxation area and fitness room are reserved for adults aged 18 and over. Hotel guests under 16 need adult supervision at the swimming pool and whirlpool. Those distinctions allow parents to plan pool time without treating every part of the health club as a family facility.

The address is Piazza Duca d'Aosta 9, directly opposite Milan's main railway station. This is the Centrale district, not the Duomo square or the streets immediately around La Scala. For an itinerary built around train journeys, that position removes the need to cross the city before reaching the station. For shopping and sightseeing, allow for the onward journey instead of expecting the historic center at the front door.

The M3 metro line connects Centrale directly with Montenapoleone and Duomo. The hotel also arranges a guest shuttle toward Piazza Scala; ask the doorman about availability and timing. This city service should not be confused with an airport transfer. Linate Airport is about five miles from the hotel, and travel time by road depends on traffic.

Malpensa has a rail alternative: the Malpensa Express links Terminal 1 with Milano Centrale in about 51 minutes. Allow separately for reaching the platform and crossing to the hotel. It is a useful route for travelers who prefer a train to a road transfer, especially when Milan is one stage of a longer Italian journey.

Gallia's business facilities match the scale of its accommodation. Twelve meeting venues provide around 1,000 square meters of event space, with a further 700 square meters of foyers. The column-free Duomo Ballroom measures 400 square meters and has natural light and a separate entrance. This allows a conference or larger private gathering to use dedicated facilities rather than depend on the hotel's dining rooms.

For the individual traveler, the combination is more straightforward: arrive by rail, leave time for the pool, and make an evening of the rooftop rather than rushing back out. Gallia rewards a stay that uses the hotel as well as the city. Its station-side location is most persuasive when easy onward travel matters alongside design, dining and room to settle in.
