For a pool within your own garden, consider the Garden Pool Pavilion, listed at 204 square meters with an outdoor terrace. The three Ocean Pool Pavilions sit higher on the hillside and differ slightly in layout. Each has a nine-meter infinity pool overlooking Amuk Bay and the Lombok Strait. These are worth considering for a longer stay when you expect to spend several afternoons in your room. Ask which layout is available, particularly if the outdoor seating arrangement matters to you.

Kilasari Pool Villa adds an 11.7-meter infinity pool to its high hillside position, with views across the strait. Indrakila Pool Villa has its own pool, terrace and lounging pavilion, with sea and temple views. Their positions and outdoor areas deserve as much attention as the category names. A larger private pool may be more useful to you than a closer connection to the main resort spaces.

The Amankila Two-Bedroom Villa looks over the beach and Amuk Bay. Its 660-square-meter layout includes two king bedrooms, indoor living and dining areas, a broad terrace and two lounging balés. The private pool measures 10.5 meters. Bathrooms have soaking tubs, twin vanities and rain showers.

For a family or two couples traveling together, this gives everyone a shared place to swim, eat and read, with separate bedrooms at the end of the day. It is also worth considering for a longer visit when spending time together at the villa is part of the reason for traveling.

The three-tier pool gives the hillside resort its visual center, with successive levels facing the sea. Down by the beach, a separate pool sits in a coconut grove. It is the resort's largest swimming pool, with lawns and shaded places to sit nearby. The two areas offer different ways to spend the day without leaving Amankila.

At the Beach Club, salads, pizzas and Indonesian dishes make lunch straightforward after a swim. Eight beachside balés provide sheltered lounging and light dining on the sand. Sandikala sits above the main pool in an open-sided dining room. Its Indonesian and Western menu draws on the resort's garden, which supplies herbs, fruit and vegetables. The outlook over the Lombok Strait makes this an appealing place for a meal without needing to arrange a separate dining experience.

Arva brings coastal Italian cooking to the resort, using local seafood and produce within an Italian menu. It serves dinner near the three-tier pool and gives a stay of several nights more variety. The restaurant currently closes on Sundays, so plan around that if it is a priority. The Terrace Bar offers another place for drinks before or after dinner.

Harvest Table is more intimate, with room for eight in its own open-air pavilion. Cooking classes begin in the permaculture garden before a chef guides you through several Balinese dishes. You then sit down to the meal you have prepared. The venue can also be reserved for a private gathering. For families or friends interested in food, this can be a more engaging afternoon than simply choosing another restaurant.

Treatments can be arranged in your accommodation, the massage pavilion or a beachside balé, depending on the session. The menu includes Balinese baths, scrubs and wraps. Cinta therapy combines exfoliation, a flower-scented warm bath and an aromatherapy massage, and can be arranged for one person or a couple. Out on the water, Amankila's two traditional outrigger boats support half-day coastal cruises. Snorkeling and diving trips can travel farther afield, with Manta Point and Crystal Bay among the destinations the hotel arranges. A shorter cruise may leave more time for swimming and lunch; a dive outing calls for its own planning with the team.

Bali's Ngurah Rai International Airport, code DPS, is about a 90-minute drive away in favorable traffic. Allow additional time when arranging departure transfers. For a split stay, Aman estimates around 90 minutes by road to Amandari in the Ubud area, or two hours to Aman Villas at Nusa Dua. Amankila's position makes most sense when the east coast itself is part of your itinerary, rather than somewhere you commute from each day to southern Bali.
