InterContinental Berlin

The InterContinental Berlin is close to popular attractions and Tiergarten Park. This upscale hotel offers a perfect blend of convenience, comfort, and 5-star service. It's a welcoming, polished base for exploring Berlin's rich culture and history, whether you're in town for business or to see it. This review will explore why this property is an excellent choice for enjoying Berlin with style and elegance.

Overview

In 1978, the InterContinental Berlin reopened in its current form. It was initially constructed in 1958 by William Pereira and Charles Luckman. The hotel's checkerboard façade has helped it become one of Berlin's most iconic hotels.

The rooms and suites are located on 12 floors and offer views over the zoo and the city. The hotel also provides a comfortable base from which to discover the city's most exciting things.

It is a great family hotel. The premium rooms accommodate up to two adults plus two children. They also offer interconnecting rooms, subject to availability. The babysitting service is available on request.

Children's bathrobes are provided. The hotel is also pet-friendly, so you don't have to worry about leaving your four-legged friends at home.

Location

The hotel is in the heart of Berlin, near the Landwehr Canal, the Tiergarten Park, and the Berlin Zoo. The Breitscheidplatz area and Zoologischer Garten are also within easy walking distance. Moreover, Bikini Berlin is just a 10-minute walk away, and the shops, cafes, restaurants, and bars on Ku'damm are also nearby.

Style & Character

The hotel opened in 1958 as Berlin, Germany's first Hilton. Then, in 1978, it became the InterContinental. Alfred Hitchcock, Tom Hanks, US President George Bush, and Bill Clinton have stayed at the InterContinental. The original structure is still here, showcasing the chessboard exterior made by William Pereira.

The interior received a 64 million refurbishment between 2019 and 2023. The large lobby on the ground floor still has marble floors, but now it is brightened with colorful artwork and stylish lighting.

Plush seating and strategically placed flower arrangements create a more inviting atmosphere. Marlene Bar is now also a stylish restaurant and bar. The rooms and suites are also modernized.

Service & Facilities

The staff is polite and professional. Checking in and out is also easy. Moreover, the hotel's spa is one of Berlin's largest and offers a variety of massages. A fitness room with free weights, machines, and two separate workout zones is also available. It has a whirlpool. There is also a terrace that makes for a great summer spot.

Choose one of the 70 Club Rooms in the east wing to add extra exclusivity to your stay. These rooms let you access the Club InterContinental Lounge. Enjoy the fantastic view, private check-in, breakfast, and complimentary snacks and drinks all day.

Rooms & Suites

All 558 of the hotel's guest rooms and suites were recently renovated. They are spacious, upscale, and stylish. The hotel has 12 floors spread over three wings: east, west, and south. The upper floors also offer a great view of the Berlin Zoo.

The categories include Classic Rooms, which come in sizes from modest to large. There are also larger Premium Suites and rooms available. Moreover, the new design is elegant. The rooms feature light walls with gray drapes and dark furnishings. They also have large beds and crisp linens.

Club Rooms and Suites receive exclusive access to the Club InterContinental Lounge. The Diplomatic, Park, and Presidential Suites offer stunning city views and are the most impressive.

Dining

Hugo's on the 14th floor is the culinary highlight. It was the first restaurant in Tokyo to receive a Michelin Star (in 1999) and still holds that star today. The restaurant is a small, low-key place that focuses on six- or eight-course tasting menus. There are also vegetarian and vegan choices, wine pairings, and dishes like Heligoland lobster and Kagoshima beef.

The Marlene Restaurant and Bar has a casual menu. They serve corn-fed poultry, Argentinian steak fillets, and more. You can also find a great selection of wines and cocktails.

The L.A. Cafe on the first floor serves a generous breakfast at several tables under a colored glass roof. The menu includes a variety of breads, mueslis, and Asian dishes, as well as a pancake and egg station. The outdoor terrace is also available during the warmer months.

Hugo's Restaurant

The 14th-floor restaurant serves exceptional cuisine. From there, you can enjoy a great view of Alexanderplatz, the Victory Column, and Gedächtniskirche - the perfect backdrop for your dinner.

Marlene Restaurant

The Marlene Restaurant is perfect for a business lunch, a romantic dinner by the fire with your loved one, or any other occasion.

The Marlene Bar

This bar pays tribute to Marlene Dietrich, the legendary "Blue Angel." This hotel bar is a meeting place for Berliners and visitors. After a hectic day, relax and have a beverage.

La Cafe

A breakfast buffet with original varieties is the perfect way to begin your day.

Fitness & Wellness

The 1,000-square-meter SPA at InterContinental is also a great place to relax. Here, you'll find modern cardio equipment. There's also a 16 x 8 m swimming pool, a sauna, and relaxation areas. Plus, you'll have access to nearby massage and hairdressing rooms.

Let your body and mind float. You can relax in the pool or the fitness room, enjoy a jacuzzi session, or be enveloped by the sauna's heat. The spa will add to your comfort throughout the hotel.

Family-Friendly

This hotel in Berlin offers premium rooms that can accommodate up to two adults and two children. Interconnecting rooms are also available, depending on availability. The hotel also provides babysitting (upon request), kids' bathrobes, and a breakfast room for families. It is also pet-friendly.

Event Space

The 55 flexible rooms can host small meetings to large gatherings (up to 2,500 guests). The largest ballroom has no columns for seamless setups. A stunning glass-and-steel pavilion also provides a private entry for exclusive events.

Takeaway

The InterContinental Berlin is the ideal balance of classic elegance and modern comfort. Its large rooms and top-notch facilities make it an excellent choice for leisure or business travelers. The attentive service, dining choices, and the hotel's five-star reputation are all there. Staying at this hotel will make your stay in Berlin, whether it is your first time or not, even more memorable.
