Discover Shangri La Paris and the most romantic city. The City of Love, Paris, is famous for its romantic atmosphere, culture, music, architecture, savants, and salons. In addition, it houses the Eiffel Tower, a symbol of love apart from being the city icon. Moreover, a mere 500 meters away from the Eiffel Tower, across the river, is the Paris iteration of the Shangri La Paris. This swish hotel oozes a 19th Century charm with all the modern luxuries making it an attractive option to stay in the city of light, love, and romance.
The building was first built in 1891 as the residence of Prince Roland Bonaparte. This French Imperial Prince, the great-nephew of Napoleon Bonaparte, chose the prime location by River Sienna to build an opulent palace. He was a keen botanist and a geographer.
He was a popular figure in the Parisian scientific, academic, and artistic circles, so he often arranged lively gatherings. Later, the multinational Shangri La Group picked this Parisian palace to open its first hotel in Europe, continuing its tradition of hospitality. Many renowned architects revived the historic landmark after years of meticulous restoration work. It welcomed its first guests in 2010.
When Shangri La Hotels and Resorts chose this palace to function as one of their luxury hotels, they couldn't choose any better. This hotel boasts a prime location, with the Eiffel Tower merely 500m away. Furthermore, it is highly accessible with the Paris-Le Bourget Airport, only 14 km away. You can also arrive here by airport bus. Just be sure not to miss the Shangri La plaque, or you will assume it to be some grand residence that is out of bounds for the public.
The 16th arrondissement location is also ideal because of numerous visit-worthy places. For example, Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris and the Palais de Tokyo, are a few minutes' walk away. Some major culinary attractions like Champs-Élysées are also nearby. Sure it is removed from the city center. However, a few steps from the entrance is the Iéna metro, which can take you anywhere.
In 2009 the building was inscribed as a French Monument Historique. Although it underwent extensive restoration, the structure stays true to its historical roots. Perhaps the most noteworthy feature is the domed-topped entryway with marble floors. It's vaulted ceiling also has zodiac symbols paying homage to its original owner's interests.
The historic salons feature some Bonaparte originals with their imperial insignia and gilded gold leaf ceilings. Other historical features like the Stairway of Honor, made from forged steel and brass, original wood floors, beautiful stained glass windows, and hand-crafted mahogany panels have also been preserved.
Additionally, the lobby has a distinctly residential feel. This is because the concierge and front desk are towards the side instead of at the front and center. The Shangri La Hotel Paris offers scenic views of the Eiffel Tower from ceiling-high windows, balconies, and terraces. As a result, it is a much-favored spot for romantic getaways.
The property offers 100 rooms and suites individually designed to receive lots of natural light. They feature a classic and calm color scheme with soft gold, cream, and duck-egg blue hues dominating the scene. Moreover, all the living spaces are decorated with embossed wallpapers and trademark orchids. A majority of living spaces also offer mesmerizing views of the Eiffel Tower. The rest look out towards surrounding avenues or the charming hotel garden.
With the neoclassical furnishings, the rooms celebrate their aristocratic roots. Along with comfortable king-sized beds, each room features modern touches. These include a flat-screen TV, complimentary Wi-Fi, and a Nespresso machine. The marble bathrooms are also luxurious with heated flooring, mirror-embedded TVs, and Bulgari White Tea products. They have both walk-in showers and giant bathtubs. Some also have huge windows that let in lots of natural light and flaunt those Eiffel Views.
Furthermore, some signature suites feature fully-furnished terraces overlooking the city of lights. The most noteworthy, of course, is the Shangri La Suite and the L'Appartement Prince Bonaparte. Both are the epitome of uncompromising luxury with unparalleled views and unmatched facilities.
Shangri La Paris offers a comprehensive fine dining experience with three options. Paris's only Michelin-Starred Shang Palace, a Chinese restaurant, is the most popular dining option. Led by Chef Samuel Lee Sum, it serves the best dim sum.
L'Abeille is another Michelin-Starred offering. Named after the Bonaparte family emblem: the bee, this restaurant offers a delicious French gourmet menu to satisfy those who seek authentic French fare.
Moreover, the most architecturally impressive venue on the property is La Bauhinia. This light-filled space is spread over two levels and offers a more affordable menu of the three. Here, you can enjoy contemporary food beneath the 1930s-era steel and glass dome.
And if you want something innovative, try pastry chef Michaël Bartocetti's vegan afternoon tea.
The bar experiences here are also plentiful. For one, the Le Bar Botaniste serves quirky cocktails and some rare botanical spirits. And if you visit during summer, you can enjoy a few drinks amidst lush views at Terrasse Krug, the hotel's hidden terrace bar.
Despite all its fanciness, the hotel boasts a low-key atmosphere. They also have a kid-friendly offering. All the children receive a special passport when they arrive. Also, with the special passport, children can easily explore the hotel and collect stamps for their passports.
Another standout attraction is Chi, the Spa. Constructed in the former stables, it features a spacious indoor pool, two treatment rooms, and a fitness room. In line with the botanic theme, it focuses on relaxation with numerous facials and massages. Moreover, it uses products from the luxurious London-based Organic Pharmacy.
Because of its low-key atmosphere, it is easy to feel at home during your stay at Shangri La Paris. The quiet surroundings, mesmerizing views, and intimate vibes make it a top choice for couples who want a romantic getaway. But if you are visiting with family, rest assured that the hotel is exceptionally family-friendly.
