The Domaine de Primard is a peaceful retreat in the countryside, just outside Paris. Ancient trees and rolling gardens surround this estate. It also has a gentle river flowing through it. Everything here has a relaxed, natural feel. The manor shines with its beautiful restoration. Each room is decorated thoughtfully. There's also farm-to-table cuisine that highlights local flavors. This review shares what it's like here. It also explores whether the property lives up to its romantic, serene reputation.
The hotel is located just under an hour to the west of Paris, on a property spanning both banks of the Eure River. This Directoire-style house from the 18th century was the private residence of Catherine Deneuve. Primard is now a luxury hotel with 39 rooms, a must-visit restaurant, and France's first Susanne Kaufmann Spa.
This hotel belongs to the Domaines de Fontenille Hotel Group, which owns and operates the popular Luberon hotel with the same name. From Domaine de Primard, you can expect classic aesthetics and professional hospitality.
Moreover, the estate itself cultivates the produce served in the hotel restaurant. On the terrace, surrounded by fruit trees, the bistro offers a relaxed version of the vision. There is a heated pool outside. You will find plenty of opportunities for hiking and walking. You can also enjoy horseback riding and the famous Robert Hersant Golf Course. Jacques Wirtz designs the hotel's grounds.
In the Centre-Val de Loire region, this property lies in Eure-et-Loire in a lush spot about an hour away from Paris by train (Saint-Lazare). This location has the advantage of being secluded and green, making it ideal for escaping everyday noise. However, if you want to venture beyond the hotel, guests should rent a car. Pretty Dreux, Anet Castle, and Giverny are all within a 20-minute drive.
The Domaine de Primard offers a warm welcome, and its staff is friendly, enthusiastic, and accommodating. The restaurant staff is especially accommodating. The hotel opened in 2021. The operation, therefore, isn't as flawless as that of an established five-star. However, like the garden around the property, this is still a new venture, and the seeds are already planted.
The spa area occupies a whole building. Here, guests can sample facials and massages with products from Alps potion maker Sarah Kauffman. In front of the Château de la Tour, a heated outdoor pool awaits. It's surrounded by sun loungers and lined with white and evergreen trees. Staff can also organize a variety of activities, including fishing on the Eure River, canoeing, golf, or horseback riding nearby. Furthermore, the hotel welcomes pets and offers VIP treatment. Pets get their own beds and meals on arrival.
Four buildings house the 40 suites and rooms, which include the modern barn and the original main building. At the main chateau, guests can enjoy views from both sides of the property. Views of greenery are also available from all rooms.
Moreover, the decor gives the impression of being in a country chateau. The rooms retain their period details, such as parquet flooring and exposed beams. The minimalist style also helps create a calm vibe. The walls are also whitewashed or accented in dusky pinks or pastel greens.
Additionally, the marble-style bathrooms are stunning. You can close the old wooden shutters for privacy or throw them open to enjoy the view from their baths.
Eric Frechon, a chef from Paris, signs the menus for the hotel's two restaurants. Eglantine provides a gourmet experience, but Octave serves a more affordable brasserie-style menu. They both focus on fresh seasonal food and produce from the local area. Moreover, the on-site garden provides herbs and seasonal produce.
The Octave's posh menu includes homemade tartare and fish and chips. Also, the artichoke appetizer, which turns the vegetable into a piece of art, is a must-try. The open kitchen also offers a variety of meat-based dishes, including rotisserie and barbecue.
The breakfast buffet also features butter, jams, and more items made at Fontenille's other properties.
Eglantine is located in Maison du Verger. Large bay windows overlook the orchard and rose garden. Moreover, the mirrors on its walls reflect the park's infinity. Eric Frechon is famous for his dishes in top hotels and restaurants. He also takes risks with a pure, simple cuisine that showcases nature's raw power on your plate. Respect and delicacy magnify the best of local produce.
The terrace is a grassy area between apple and cherry trees. This room has been designed in the style of an Anglo-Norman restaurant, with brick walls and large floorboards. Moreover, large fireplaces inspire traditional cooking just as they would at home.
Guests can enjoy watching chefs cook meats, free-range chickens, and family meals. They can also watch seasonal vegetables on the spit or rotisserie.
The main bar is on the first floor of Maison sur l'Eure. The bar serves both the adjacent halls and the terrace overlooking the Eure. It offers an extensive selection of wines, cocktails, and Veuve Clicquot Champagne. Moreover, in winter, the Roseraie greenhouse offers a warm garden experience. Visitors are welcome to enjoy tea or fruit juice throughout the day. The Veuve Clicquot river bar is also hidden behind the pool. However, the ideal spot to relax at the end of the day is a wooden deck that extends over the water.
This hotel is also proud to be home to the first Susanne K. Spa in France. Local plants and herbs complement the treatments. Moreover, the 450 sq m wooden chalet spans two floors and offers a wide range of treatments. On the ground floor, you'll also find a sauna, hammam, as well as hot and cold Jacuzzis. On the upper floor, you'll find four treatment rooms, including one for couples. There's also a fitness center with WaterRower equipment. Additionally, secluded meditation decks line the Eure's banks and surround the pond.
Domaine de Primard offers the elegant, tranquil escape that it advertises. It's the ideal place to relax and soak in every moment. With its lovely manor, beautiful gardens, and caring service, you'll feel right at home. For a calming weekend in France, this hotel is an excellent choice. It's ideal for a romantic escape or a chance to connect with nature.
You'll have an unforgettable experience. The peace of this retreat will remain with you long after you leave, inviting you to return for more.
