Hotel Plaza Athenee Paris

Red awnings, wrought-iron balconies, and seasonal geraniums give Hôtel Plaza Athénée Paris a recognizable presence at 25 Avenue Montaigne. The Dorchester Collection hotel holds France's Palace distinction, but the address tells you as much about its character as the designation. Couture shopping and restaurant life are part of the setting, with the Seine and Champs-Élysées within walking distance.

The hotel opened in 1913, and its relationship with fashion took shape around Christian Dior, whose house was established nearby in 1946. Dior visited the hotel and used it for fashion shows and photographs. Inside, the mood moves between classic French grandeur and Art Deco polish. That range gives the property a particular appeal for travelers who enjoy decorative interiors and the history behind them.

The location makes it easy to combine time in the boutiques with a walk beside the Seine. The Champs-Élysées is also close enough to reach on foot, while the Eiffel Tower is a longer walk across the river. The appeal is especially clear when shopping and dining carry as much weight in your plans as sightseeing.

There are 208 rooms and suites, divided into 154 rooms and 54 suites. The collection includes both courtyard-facing accommodation and categories overlooking Avenue Montaigne. Size, outlook, and decorative style vary, so the distinctions between categories are worth more attention than the room name alone. A courtyard room and an Eiffel Tower suite offer quite different ways to experience the same address.

A Superior Room measures 30 square meters and accommodates two guests. Its Art Deco styling and inner-courtyard outlook make it a compact introduction to the hotel, with a king bed or twin beds on request. Italian marble continues into the bathroom. A tea and coffee station, pillow menu, and Chromecast television add practical comforts without changing the room's decorative character. Connecting rooms are subject to availability.

The Deluxe Room, Avenue Montaigne View offers 38 square meters in a classical Parisian style. Its outlook brings the avenue into the room, a useful distinction for guests drawn to the hotel's fashion setting. This category accommodates up to three people, with an extra bed subject to availability. It should not be confused with a dedicated Eiffel Suite, whose outlook is explicitly centered on the tower.

For more space facing inward, the Junior Suite has 45 square meters and looks onto La Cour Jardin. Soft fabrics and artwork furnish the interior, with Italian marble in the bathroom and courtyard greenery beyond the windows. It can accommodate three guests with a sofa bed or extra bed, subject to availability. Connecting options are also conditional. The added floor area makes this a useful middle ground between a room and a larger suite.

The 95-square-meter Eiffel Suite makes the tower view central to the stay. One version follows an Art Deco theme, while another combines 18th-century references with couture fabrics. The lounge gives the outlook its own setting beyond the bedroom, which matters when spending time in the suite is part of the trip. Capacity is up to three guests, with an extra bed subject to availability; connecting accommodation is also subject to availability.

La Grande Table du Plaza Athénée is the hotel's gastronomic restaurant, led by executive chef Jocelyn Herland and head chef Anthony Di Prospero. French culinary heritage shapes the cooking, while Rémi Tessier's dining room gives it an appropriately formal setting. A central table in pink marble, gilded details, and crystal chandeliers make the room as distinctive as the cuisine. Dinner here has a different scale and rhythm from the hotel's brasserie.

The six-course menu follows the seasons and draws on the traditions of French grand dining. Tableside carving and flambé service give guests something to watch as well as taste. Angelo Musa's pastry work includes Le Grand Dessert Belle Époque, continuing the meal's historical theme. These details make the restaurant relevant to travelers planning a food-led visit, with service and presentation forming part of the evening.

Le Relais Plaza offers a different mood. Opened in 1936, the Art Deco brasserie serves French classics under head chef Victoria Boller, whose cooking draws on her Lyonnaise background. A Lalique chandelier and engraved zodiac stained glass reward a closer look around the dining room. Lunch or dinner here can carry a sense of occasion without taking the form of the gastronomic restaurant's tasting menu.

La Galerie accommodates the less formal moments of the day, including breakfast, a light lunch, and afternoon tea. Bruno Moinard's design connects the interior with the courtyard through its windows, with a mosaic floor adding detail underfoot. Angelo Musa's pastries give tea its own reason for a visit. For guests returning from the avenue, it offers a place to sit down without committing to a full restaurant meal.

La Terrasse Montaigne places guests directly on the avenue, ideal for watching the couture world pass by. La Cour Jardin offers the contrasting setting of a leafy inner courtyard for spring and summer dining. The distinction is straightforward: one faces the street, while the other draws you inside the building. Outdoor dining is seasonal, so these spaces are a different proposition from the indoor restaurants.

Le Bar takes a more contemporary approach. Patrick Jouin and Sanjit Manku paired a ceiling of blue fabric with a transparent counter made from resin. Cocktails and Dom Pérignon champagne suit the evening setting, while the design separates it from the classical rooms elsewhere in the hotel. It is a natural place for a drink after dinner when the evening continues indoors.

Dior Spa Plaza Athénée extends the couture connection into face and body treatments. The selection includes the Constellation Massage and the Kobi-Dior facial, which uses techniques inspired by Japanese facial massage. The Dior Light Suite adds a dedicated setting for sleep rituals, combining treatments with lighting that reflects the natural cycle of daylight.

A fitness studio, personal training, and sauna provide options alongside the treatment menu. Exercise has its own space here, so a visit to the wellness area need not revolve around a facial or massage appointment.

Charles de Gaulle and Orly are the main airport gateways for an arrival in Paris. Road journeys depend on traffic, so fixed transfer times are not a useful measure of this central address. Alma-Marceau and Franklin D. Roosevelt are nearby Metro stations, giving guests an alternative to road travel once in the city.

Why we love this hotel

Why we love this hotel

Dior Spa's Constellation Massage uses slow, rhythmic movements across the body, offering a treatment for guests who prefer an unhurried massage.

La Galerie serves a miniature afternoon tea for children, so younger guests can join the pastry ritual with a version made for them.

Le Relais Plaza combines French brasserie dishes with original frescoes and zodiac stained glass, making its Art Deco setting part of dinner.
