The setting and menu offer a change from Montagna, particularly welcome at a remote lodge where eating on property is a substantial part of the stay.

Garden Spot makes the garden itself the setting for dinner. The experience begins with cocktails and a tour led by the head gardener, followed by a vegetarian three-course meal at a communal table on an open-air porch. It is a sociable alternative to a private evening. Caracol gives a day outside the lodge a clear focus, with Maya temples rising from the forest. These outings deserve time rather than a crowded schedule. Distances, walking and transfers all matter when deciding how much to include in one day.

Closer to the lodge, horseback rides, hiking, mountain biking and sunrise birding offer shorter ways into the landscape. Big Rock Falls and the organic garden provide further reasons to explore nearby. The best itineraries leave breathing room. A day at Caracol or in the cave systems can be rewarding but long; an afternoon by the creek, pool or spa lets the quieter side of Blancaneaux become part of the trip.
